More than 60 years of building vehicles

BAIC Group (Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd.) is headquartered in Beijing, China. Its story began in 1958, and today its businesses cover passenger cars, off-road vehicles and commercial vehicles, built at production bases across China and sold in markets around the world.

Our history

  1. 1958

    BAIC develops the Jinggangshan, the first sedan designed and built in China.

  2. 1966

    The BJ212 enters production, China's first production off-road vehicle and the start of BAIC's off-road heritage.

  3. 1983

    Beijing Jeep Corporation is founded, China's first automotive joint venture.

  4. 1996

    Foton Motor is established, extending the group into commercial vehicles.

  5. 2002–2003

    Joint ventures Beijing Hyundai and Beijing Benz are established.

  6. 2013

    BAIC International is established to develop the group's business outside China.

  7. 2019

    BAIC's new-energy brand ARCFOX makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

  8. 2021–2023

    BAIC competes in the Dakar Rally three years in a row, finishing 10th overall in 2023.

BAIC builds its vehicles at production bases across China. Its main passenger-vehicle plants, and what they build, include:

Research & Development

Over more than 60 years, BAIC has built deep experience in automotive research and development, with recognised work in powertrain, chassis, body structure, intelligent driving, cabin technology and safety.

Design is led from BAIC's main design centre in Beijing, working with BAIC Design Europe in Turin, Italy. The Turin studio focuses on concept vehicles and forward-looking design research.
